If you’re a parent reading this, chances are you’re standing at one of the most important crossroads of your child’s life, choosing the right school. We don’t take that lightly. Welcome to our blog.
Hello. I’m writing this on behalf of the Gopal Sharma Schools family, a community that began with one family’s quiet promise back in 1999 and has grown, over the last twenty-six years, into a group of schools educating more than twelve thousand children across Powai.
For most of those years, we let our work speak for itself. Parents came to us through word of mouth, a neighbour, a relative, a colleague who said “my child studies there, you should visit.” That’s how most of you found us, isn’t it?
But education has changed. The way parents research schools has changed. The questions you ask before you trust someone with your child have changed. So this year, we decided it was time to open a window into our schools and start talking honestly about who we are, what we believe, and what daily life at GSS actually looks like.
That’s what this blog is for.
Who we are ?
Gopal Sharma Schools sits in the heart of Powai, near the lake. We are governed by the Smt. Durgadevi Sharma Charitable Trust, founded in memory of our family’s matriarch and built on a vision that the late Shri Gopal C. Sharma carried with him through most of his life, that quality education shouldn’t be a luxury, and that every child, regardless of background, deserves a school that genuinely cares about who they become.
Today, that vision lives across our campuses. Gopal Sharma Memorial School (GSMS) and Gopal Sharma International School (GSIS) take children through their full school journey. Gopal Sharma Blooming Buds (GSBB) welcomes our youngest learners across three locations, Saki Vihar, Powai Vihar and Hiranandani, along with our dedicated Daycare. Together with Chandrabhan Sharma Junior and Degree College, we offer a complete educational pathway from kindergarten to higher education, all under the GHP Education umbrella.
What we believe about education
Our founder used to say that education is not preparation for life, education is life itself. That single line shapes almost everything we do.
We believe a child’s school years aren’t a runway leading to some future destination. They are the runway and the flight and the journey itself. A six-year-old learning to share her crayons is doing something just as important as a sixteen-year-old preparing for her board exams. Both are growing. Both deserve a school that sees them fully — not as a future doctor, engineer or topper, but as the curious, complicated, wonderful person they already are.
We also believe in faith. Not in a narrow sense, but in the steady, quiet faith that every child carries something worth nurturing. Faith that fairness, honesty and care still matter. Faith that small acts of kindness in a classroom build the kind of citizens our world needs.
Steadfast in faith. That has been our guiding line for years, and it still is.
What you can expect from this blog
We’re going to write the way we’d talk to you across a desk during a campus visit, clearly, warmly, and without the polished marketing language that most school websites hide behind.
You can expect posts like:
- Stories from our schools- what really happens between morning assembly and the last bell, told by the teachers and students who live it every day
- Honest admissions guidance- what to look for in a school in Mumbai, what questions to ask, what to expect from the GSS admission process
- Parenting conversations- real questions our parents bring to us, and what we’ve learned from twenty-six years of walking these years with families
- Faculty and student voices- because the people in our classrooms have more to teach you about our school than any of us in administration ever could
- Notes on what we are still learning- no school has it all figured out, and we’ll write about the things we’re working on, not just the things we’re proud of
An invitation
If you’ve read this far, thank you. Genuinely. Your time is the most generous gift a parent can give a school they’re considering, and we don’t want to waste it.
Bookmark this blog. Read the posts that interest you. Disagree with us when you feel like it, write to us, we’ll read it. Visit one of our campuses when you’re ready. And if a friend or family member is searching for a school in Mumbai right now, send them this way.
We’ve been here, in Powai, since 1999. We plan to be here for a long time. We’d love it if you and your child were part of the next chapter.
